BMW 2002 Release Bearing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to renew the release bearing when the clutch is dismantled for renewal of the driven plate on BMW 2002?
A: Whenever the clutch is dismantled for renewal of the driven plate, it is worth renewing the release bearing at the same time. Deterioration of the bearing should be suspected when there are signs of grease leakage or the bearing is very noisy when spun with the fingers. To remove the release arm, prise the spring which secures it to the ball pin pivot over the collar of the ball pin. Withdraw the lever complete with release bearing from the front of the clutch bellhousing. Disconnect the bearing springs and lift it from the release lever. Refitting is a reversal of removal but make sure that the bearing is an exact replacement - several different types have been used. Apply high melting point grease to the ball pivot and the groove inside the bearing hub. Make sure that the conical rubber seal is located between the collar of the ball pivot and the release lever.
