BMW X5 Clutch Slave Cylinder Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you replace the slave cylinder on BMW X5?
A: Pinch off the brake fluid supply hose to the Clutch Master Cylinder using BMW special tool 13 3 010 or an equivalent hose clamping tool. Raise the vehicle and support it safely. Remove the splash guard under the transmission and the front end reinforcement. Working underneath the transmission, disconnect the fluid line from the slave cylinder on the side of the transmission, placing a pan under the hose to catch any dripping fluid. Remove the slave cylinder mounting nuts from the clutch bellhousing and take out the cylinder. For installation, reverse the removal process while noting the following: check for wear on the slave cylinder, as any wear except on the tip indicates misalignment of clutch components; lightly coat the pushrod tip with molybdenum disulfide grease (Molykote® Longterm or an equivalent); ensure the pushrod tip engages the recess in the clutch release lever during installation; fill the brake fluid reservoir with clean fluid and bleed the clutch hydraulics.
