BMW Z3 Brake Booster Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and install the brake booster and master cylinder on BMW Z3?
A: To remove and install the brake booster and master cylinder, first disconnect the negative battery cable and siphon the brake fluid from the reservoir. Remove the reservoir and, if applicable, disconnect the clutch hydraulic hose. Disconnect all brake lines from the master cylinder and remove the instrument panel trim from the bottom left inside the passenger compartment. Take off the return spring from the brake pedal, press off the clip, and remove the pin connecting the booster rod to the brake pedal. Remove the four nuts and pull the booster and master cylinder out of the engine compartment. For installation, if the filter in the brake booster is clogged, clean it by removing the dust boot, retainer, damper, and filter, ensuring that the slots in the damper and filter are offset by 180 degrees upon reinstallation. Install the brake booster and torque the nuts to 16-17 ft. lbs. (22-24 Nm), then connect the brake lines and torque them to 10 ft. lbs. (14.2 Nm). Reconnect the reservoir and lines, attach the brake pedal to the pushrod, adjust the pedal height and Brake Light Switch, and finally fill and bleed the system.
