    Q:
What are the components and procedures for maintaining the crankcase emission control system and Canister on BMW 325i? Posted by Customer
    A:
The components of the crankcase emission control system require no attention other than to regularly check that the hose(s) are clear and undamaged. If the evaporative emission control system is thought to be faulty, disconnect the hoses from the EVAP canister and purge control valve and check that they are clear by blowing through them. Full testing of the system can only be carried out using a sophisticated scan tool connected to the OBD test port. To access the DLC in the driver's kick panel, remove the cover, then pull out the dust cover over the connector. If the purge control valve or EVAP canister is thought to be faulty, they must be replaced. The canister is located under the vehicle, just behind the right rear wheel. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the inner wheelwell liner fasteners and pull the liner back. Note the installed locations of the pipes. Squeeze together the sides of the collars and disconnect the lines from the canister. Remove the canister mounting bolts and the canister. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring the hoses are correctly and securely reconnected. The valve is located on a bracket on the underside of the intake manifold. On 3.0L models, loosen the clamp, disconnect the air intake hose from the throttle body, remove the throttle body mounting bolts and move the throttle body to one side. Ensure the ignition is switched off, and disconnect the electrical connector from the valve. Disconnect the quick-release connector from the valve and release the hose. Release the clip and slide the valve from the bracket. Installation is the reverse of removal. Ensure the valve and hose are securely held by the retaining clips.

    Q:
Where is the carbon canister located and How to remove and install it on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
The carbon canister is designed on the left hand side under the rear bumper. To start it is advisable to lift the rear end of the car, and ensure that it is well secured. It is important to always have stability and support as using a floor jack does not sufficient support; the use of a professional automotive lift or jack stands is recommended. Then, unbolster all the fasteners for left side rear bumper splash shield. To remove the activated carbon canister it is required to unbolt the leakage detection pump connections and remove the electrical connector harness and the fastener to pull the carbon canister out of the car. The procedure of installation is the complete reverse of the removal process that has been described above.
