Any vehicle that has ASC+T must be bled with the BMW Service Tester only and because it is dangerous and potentially lethal work, it should only be done by the dealer service centres. Start with engaged rear wheels and parking brake; turn the rear wheel nuts by 1.41 turn to slacken and then jack up the rear wheels. If necessary, remove the brake pad wear sensor connector from the harness, do not loosen or disconnect the brake caliper fluid hose unless the brake caliper is to be replaced, taken off completely, or rebuilt; if the fluid hose stays connected, suspend the caliper assembly with wire. If the caliper is to be removed in its totality, then drain the brake fluid from the reservoir and make the brake pedal remain in a depressed position or put the top of the reservoir in a sandwich plastic bag and then put the cap. Still connected, use a flare nut wrench to loosen the flexible line to the caliper; shift the tensioning spring in a way to unlock the retaining tabs and then take off the spring. There should be some small plastic tabs at the caliper slide bolts you need to unscrew, then use an hex tool to remove the slider bolts and then you simply rock the caliper assembly together with the inner brake pad off the brake rotor. When filling is to be done, locate a drain pan beneath the caliper, centrifugal the brake fluid line, and plug it, always holding the brake line with flare nut wrench, and spinning the brake caliper. If the caliper mounting bracket is to be removed then the mounting bolts must be removed and the bracket lifted off, this may require the use of a heavy socket and breaker bar. To install the brake line to the caliper you should torque them to a level of 10 ft. lbs. If the caliper bracket was removed, then provide a temporary support to the caliper then place the bracket on the trailing arm and tighten the bolts accordingly then place the brake pads on the caliper bracket. Position the brake caliper over the brake pads, apply brake grease at the slider bolts, insert the slider bolts and tighten them to the required torque specification, finally fit in the protective caps and the retainer spring. If installed, fit the brake wear sensor wire to the harness and tighten properly, and if the BRAKE FLUID LINE was removed, flush the brake system. Last, put the wheels, tighten the lug bolts manually, lift the car and let the tires touch the ground and further tighten the lug bolts in the diagonally opposite order. Rear brake caliper construction is similar to front brake caliper construction, and for information on overhauling the rear brake caliper refer to the front brake caliper overhaul section.
