    Q:
How to remove and install a clutch release cylinder on BMW 330i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Do not allow brake fluid to come into contact with the paint as it will damage the finish. Removal: Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap and siphon out enough fluid so that the level is below the level of the reservoir fluid hose connection to the clutch master cylinder. Do not empty the reservoir, as this will draw air into the brake system. To improve access, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Release the bolts and remove the splash shield for access to the transmission bellhousing. For metal slave cylinders, place a container beneath the hydraulic pipe connection on the clutch slave cylinder to catch escaping brake fluid. Unscrew the union nut and disconnect the fluid line. Unscrew the securing nuts and withdraw the slave cylinder from the mounting studs on the bellhousing. For plastic slave cylinders, remove the slave cylinder mounting nuts and withdraw the slave cylinder from the mounting studs on the transmission. Pry out the retaining clip and disconnect the fluid line from the cylinder. Inspection: Inspect the slave cylinder for fluid leaks and damage, and replace if necessary. Installation: On models with a plastic slave cylinder, press the piston into the cylinder, then reconnect the fluid pipe. Refill the fluid reservoir, then extend and compress the piston in the cylinder five times while holding the cylinder vertical. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following points: Before installation, clean and lightly grease the end of the slave cylinder pushrod. Tighten the mounting nuts to the specified torque. Top off the fluid level and bleed the clutch hydraulic system.

    Q:
What are the steps involved in removing, reinstalling, and maintaining the slave cylinder on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Working on the left side of the engine compartment, start by removing the brake fluid reservoir cover. Use the BMW special tool 13 3 010 or an equivalent hose clamping tool to pinch off the brake reservoir to clutch master cylinder supply hose. Next, raise the vehicle and support it safely. Remove the lower engine and transmission splash shields if necessary. For models with a metal slave cylinder, work underneath the transmission and disconnect the fluid line from the slave cylinder on the side of the transmission. Place a pan under the hose to catch any dripping fluid. Remove the slave cylinder mounting nuts from the clutch bellhousing and remove the cylinder. For models with a plastic slave cylinder, remove the slave cylinder mounting nuts from the clutch bellhousing and remove the cylinder. Again, work underneath the transmission, release the retaining clip, and remove the hydraulic line. Place a pan under the hose to catch any dripping fluid. To reinstall, press the cylinder piston in by hand and reconnect the hydraulic line with the cylinder fully depressed. At the brake fluid reservoir, remove the hose clamp tool from the hydraulic line. Hold the cylinder with the piston facing down and press the piston into the cylinder five times. For all models, the remainder of the installation is the reverse of removal. Check for wear on the slave cylinder, except on the tip, which may be caused by misalignment of clutch components. Lightly coat the pushrod tip with molybdenum disulfide grease (Molykote® Longterm or equivalent). During installation, ensure that the pushrod tip engages the recess in the clutch release lever and that the spacer (if equipped) between the fuel line and hydraulic line remains in the installed position. Finally, fill the brake fluid reservoir with clean fluid and bleed the clutch hydraulics.

    Q:
How do you replace the clutch slave cylinder on BMW X3? Posted by Customer
    A:
Here are the steps you should follow to replace the clutch slave cylinder; Pull the cover of brake fluid reservoir situated on the left side of the engine bay. It can be done with a hose clamping tool, which clamps of the brake reservoir to the clutch master cylinder supply hose. Lift the car and secure it as required, then as needed, take off the lower engine and transmission shields. For the models with metal slave cylinder, access the underneath side of the transmission to get to the fluid line and remove it from the socket of the slave cylinder, apply a pan underneath the hose in case there is still dripping fluid. Pop out the nuts to the slave cylinder bracket and the clutch bellhousings and take out the cylinder. When using a plastic slave cylinder then you require to unscrew the two nuts and fitting on the hydraulic line and then remove the clip so that the hydraulic line can be removed and remember to put the pan underneath the hose. To reinstall, advance the cylinder piston in to press it in by hand and join hydraulic line when the cylinder is fully pressed. Taking a hose clamp tool, unscrew it at the brake fluid reservoir hydraulic line then, lay the cylinder with the piston facing down and push the piston into the cylinder five times. The rest can be removed and installed in inversing order, The wear noticed in the slave cylinder should be inspected, The tip of the pushrod should be lubricated by molybdenum disulfide grease and ensure that there is interlocking of the tip of a pushrod with the recess in the clutch release lever Any spacer on the fuel line and hydraulic line should remain: Last, refill the brake fluid reservoir and top up the clutch hydraulics with clean compound as required.
