    Q:
How do you properly reinstall the Oil Pump and Timing Cover on BMW 2002? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the crankshaft sprocket has been removed, tap or press it into position and fit a new 'O' ring seal to its front face, inserting the Woodruff key into the crankshaft keyway. Next, fit the chain guide rails and retaining circlips. If the oil pump and drive chain have been removed, refit the oil pump drive chain to the rear teeth of the crankshaft sprocket, then install the double roller timing chain to the front teeth of the sprocket, allowing the oil pump chain to hang downwards pending installation and drawing the timing chain upwards to hang over the top of the cylinder block. Ensure that any original chains being refitted have their marks correctly positioned. If the oil pump was removed, refit it, ensuring the 'O' ring seal around the pressure relief pipe is in place. Locate the oil pump chain sprocket within the loop of the drive chain and bolt it to the pump flange using new lock washers, checking the chain tension with light thumb pressure; only slight deflection should be observed, and if slack, a shim should be installed while noting the location of the shim oil hole. Install the timing lower cover with a new oil seal and apply jointing compound to the new joint gaskets, ensuring to apply jointing compound to the exposed part of the sump gasket if the cover was removed without disturbing the sump. If the front end of the sump gasket was damaged, a section can be cut from a new sump gasket and fixed in position with jointing compound to avoid removing the sump if the engine is in the car. Install the crankshaft pulley and nut, tightening it to torque after jamming the starter ring gear. If the cylinder head has been removed, install it along with the camshaft and rocker shafts, inserting the camshaft sprocket within the loop of the timing chain and fitting it to the camshaft flange, ensuring No. 1 piston is at TDC and the camshaft flange dowel pin hole is at its lowest point, indicated by alignment marks. Reposition the camshaft sprocket within the loop of the timing chain until it engages with the camshaft flange without moving the flange, ensuring the crankshaft remains at TDC. Install the camshaft bolts using new locking plates, tightening to specified torque and bending up the tabs of the locking plates. Finally, install the chain tensioner plunger, spring, and plug, followed by the timing upper cover, smearing its mating flanges with jointing compound and installing the bolts connecting with the lower cover only finger-tight until the screws retaining the upper cover to the cylinder head have been tightened to the specified torque.

    Q:
What is the procedure for removing the crankshaft pulley for the 1973 BMW 2002? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the cover plate from the lower half of the transmission bell housing and jam the starter ring gear with a large screwdriver or cold chisel. Unscrew and remove the crankshaft pulley nut and pull off the pulley.
