    Q:
How to remove and install a clutch master cylinder on BMW 325i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Do not allow brake fluid to come into contact with the paint as it will damage the finish. Removal: Release the fasteners and remove the trim panel above the driver's pedals. Disconnect any electrical connectors as the panel is withdrawn. Release the clips, remove the plastic cover, and then remove the brake fluid reservoir cap. Siphon out enough fluid so that the level is below the level of the reservoir fluid hose connection to the clutch master cylinder. Disconnect the clutch master cylinder hose from the brake fluid reservoir. Be prepared for fluid spillage and plug the open end of the hose to prevent dirt entry. Unscrew the mounting nuts and push back the bolts securing the master cylinder to the pedal bracket in the footwell. Using an 8 mm socket, squeeze together the ends of the pin, then press out the master cylinder pushrod pivot pin from the clutch pedal. Using a small screwdriver, pry out the retaining clip and pull the hydraulic pressure line from the master cylinder. Withdraw the master cylinder and ease the fluid supply hose through the firewall grommet, taking care not to strain the pipe. Do not pull the hose completely through the grommet. Be prepared for fluid leaks. Pull the supply hose from the top of the master cylinder, leaving the hose in place in the firewall grommet for reassembly. Be prepared for fluid spillage. Depress the locking tab and disconnect the master cylinder switch wiring plug if equipped. If required, carefully release the clips and detach the switch from the cylinder. Inspection: Inspect the master cylinder for fluid leaks and damage, and replace if necessary. At the time of writing, no spare parts were available for the master cylinder, and if faulty, the complete unit must be replaced. Check with your local dealer or parts supplier. Installation: Installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following points: Take care not to strain the master cylinder fluid pipe during installation. Top off the level in the brake fluid reservoir, then bleed the clutch hydraulic system.

    Q:
How do you remove and replace the clutch master cylinder on BMW X3? Posted by Customer
    A:
The clutch master cylinder is fixed on the pedal assembly over the clutch pedal as shown in the figure. First, one has to take off the cap of brake fluid reservoir and then using a clean syringe start to discharge the brake fluid from the reservoir. Open the clutch fluid supply line on the brake fluid reservoir and using a pan, drain any dripping fluids. At the pedal cluster, lower left trim panel under the dashboard has to be released. Then it is necessary to remove the clutch pedal return spring and remove the locking clip in order to release the clutch pedal and master cylinder from the bearing block. In order to set and unset the pin, one must use a stubby screwdriver placing the flat side of the pin upward. Undo the fasteners on the master cylinder; thereafter, unscrew the pressure line locking clip and pull the master cylinder out of service. On hydraulic fluid line connection you need to cover the clutch master cylinder with shop towels when needing to disconnect the hydraulic fluid lines; brake fluid is not only bad for your car's paintwork but will also stain your carpets; always make sure to mop up any spillages. Pull out the supply hose out of the master cylinder without retracting it to the cabin of the car. To get to the clutch switch, you need to take the switch module off of the master cylinder by unlocking the harness connecter applying pressure to the locking button and then pulling it. Lever off switch module with a screwdriver and when reconnecting, the switch should click into place on the master cylinder housing. Last but not the least put brake fluid into the reservoir and bleed the clutch hydraulics using clean fluid.

    Q:
How do you remove and reinstall the clutch master cylinder on BMW Z4? Posted by Customer
    A:
As for any fluid which is ingested, get into the eyes, it is worthy of note that some types of brake fluid are flammable and may in their contact with hot part catch fire; it is therefore advisable when working on any hydraulic system that one should take precautions as though handling gasoline on the risk of fire which may occur. Brake fluid is also a potent paint remover and is known to harm plastics - any contamination should be rinsed clear with sufficient quantities of clean water. Furthermore, brake fluid is inclined to corrossion since it is hygroscopic, that is, absorbs moisture from the surrounding air and due to this old fluid ought to be regarded as contaminated. On topping up or when replenishing it, ensure you use the fluid type recommended here, from a newly opened sealed bottle. To take off the brake fluid reservoir cap it is necessary to draw out the sufficient amount of brake fluid to make it below the connection of the fluid hose with the clutch master cylinder at the same time one should notempty the container completely to avoid pulling the air into the hydraulic circuits of the brakes. Remove the hose connecting the clutch master cylinder to the brake fluid reservoir, just expect that there will be some spillage, so you plug the fitting end of the hose to avoid any entry of dirt. Within the vehicle, remove the screws and the lower dash trim panel for driver side, reconnect electrical connector then, to remove the clutch pedal switch place the pedal and do the following: pull out the red sleeve, press the clips, and pull the switch from its bracket. Pull the two ends of the pushrod together and push out the master cylinder pushrod pivot pin of the clutch pedal and unbolt the master cylinder of the pedal bracket in the footwell. Turn the master cylinder upside down and unscrew the hydraulic pressure hose where it joins the master cylinder using a small screwdriver; gently detachment the fluid supply hose through the firewall. Check the master cylinder for signs of leakage or damage and if the master cylinder has developed a problem there is no spare part to fit just a new master cylinder has to be bought. This is done in reverse order to removal with much care given to the master cylinder fluid supply hose, after the installation, the fluid level in the reservoir is checked and topped up and the clutch hydraulic system bleed.

    Q:
How do you remove and install the clutch master cylinder on BMW X5? Posted by Customer
    A:
The clutch master cylinder is an integral of the pedal assembly located directly above the clutch pedal. Start by taking off the brake fluid reservoir cap and then using clean syringe to suck brake fluid from the reservoir. Again, whilst still in the engine compartment, on the clutch side remove the fluid supply line from the brake fluid reservoir and place a tray beneath it to aid in collection of any dripping fluid. First, disconnect the battery negative terminal then the lower left trim panel under the dashboard has to be also removed. Remove the pressure line locking clip and disconnect the line from the master cylinder You must cover the clutch master cylinder with shop towels to avoid the accidental spillage of brake fluid on the car as this will ruin the paint and stain the carpets. Take off the master cylinder as well as the supply hose, and then to disconnect the switch module from the master cylinder, press the locking button with your fingers to unlock the harness connector, then pull it. The switch module must be levered off and this is done with the screwdriver. For installation reverse the above process, you just have to ensure that the switch module fits into the master cylinder housing with an audible click. lastly replace and add pure brake fluid in the brake fluid's container and then also bleed the clutch hydraulics.
