    Q:
How to disconnect and remove the intake manifold in six cylinder engine on BMW X5? Posted by Customer
    A:
Remove the battery negative cable in the cargo compartment and always make sure to read the battery disconnection cautions before doing it. In the engine compartment, first take out the venting micro filter and the plenum cover and then snap off the plenum seal and separate the plenum bulk head also. Remove the live terminal B+ at the plenum cover from the left and then pull the upper engine covers off. While above the engine remove the B+ lead bracket, resonance valve electrical connector, oxygen sensor connectors, electrical connector for intake air temperature sensor, manifold vacuum line and mark the oxygen sensor connectors for reassembly. Situated at the left side of the cylinder head, disconnect the engine vent hose from the cylinder head cover, squeezing the spring clips besides, pull the VANOS solenoid connector loose. The fuel injector electrical connectors have to be disconnected from the injectors by pulling one corner of the wire lock clip on each injector's connector with a small screwdriver, then by releasing the two main harness hold-down connectors and lifting the fuel injector harness entirely. On the left-hand side and below the intake manifold you need to disconnect at the fuel tank venting valve, then remove the hose from the quick disconnect fitting, and finally unbolt and remove the valve from the manifold. Loosen the nut of the electrical connector of the idle speed control valve and then remove the throttle housing. Twist of the Schrader valve cap on the fuel rail, relief from pressure by unscrewing the fuel tank cap and using a short blast a compressed air to force fuel back into the tank. At the rear of the manifold to sever the fuel supply line from the fuel rail use a special tool to press the locking clip located in the end the of the fuel line fitting. Below the vehicle, you require loosening of the lower intake manifold support mounting bolt which is close to the left engine mount after which you loosen the knock sensor connector that is usually fixed at the base of the manifold and finally remove the manifold lower support nuts and the intake manifold mounting nuts. Gently take off the intake manifold from the cylinder head being over watchful not to entangle any of the electrical connection or hoses. The reinstallation of the intake manifold is in a sense the inverse of the removal with new fuel injector seals and with careful examination of the condition of the intake manifold gaskets and the rubber sealing at the throttle house and the idle speed control valve as well as the O-ring seal between the mass air flow sensor and the air filter housing; the O-ring is coated with assembly fluids in preparation for reassembly. On reconnecting the throttle assembly harness connector, the arrow depicted on the connector should merge with that on the plug when tightened.

    Q:
How do you remove the exhaust manifold for the 2005 BMW Z4? Posted by Customer
    A:
To remove the exhaust manifold, follow similar steps to remove the heater/ventilation inlet air ducting as mentioned earlier. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it on jackstands, remove the engine splash shield and the front axle reinforcement plate/bar bolts. Attach an engine hoist or support fixture to the lifting eye at the front of the cylinder head to take the weight off the engine. Underneath the vehicle, remove the right-hand engine mounting with the support arm. Remove the plastic cover over the injectors by prying out plastic caps and removing screws. Trace back the wiring from the oxygen sensor and remove the nuts/bolts to separate the exhaust pipe from the manifold. Use the engine hoist to raise the engine slightly, then remove the front exhaust manifold and rear exhaust manifold while taking care not to damage the oxygen sensors. Discard the gaskets. For installation, apply anti-seize high-temperature grease to the manifold studs, replace the manifold gaskets, and tighten the manifold nuts to the specified torque. Tighten the front axle reinforcement plate bolts to the specified torque as well.
