Start by loosening the hose clamp at the air flow meter and disconnecting the hose. For 318 and M3 models, remove the air flow meter electrical connection by rotating the outer ring and pulling it off, then release the four clips securing the upper air filter housing to the lower chamber and lift the upper housing assembly out of the engine compartment. On 325 models, remove the air flow meter electrical connection by depressing the clip and pulling it off, remove the two nuts securing the air cleaner housing to the mounting bracket, and if necessary, remove the wire tie holding the electrical lead. Then, remove the air cleaner housing from the engine compartment, release the four retaining clips securing the upper housing to the lower housing, and lift the upper housing upward. Remove the air filter element, clean the lower chamber of the air cleaner housing from any collected debris, and for installation, follow the reverse of these steps.
