Raise the car and support it safely. Remove the splash guard under the engine and the front end reinforcement if equipped. If the driveshaft is to be reinstalled, mark the mounting flanges and driveshaft sections with paint to preserve the original orientation. At the front differential input flange, remove the universal joint bolts. Then, at the transfer case flange, remove the universal joint bolts and take out the driveshaft. Installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring to observe any previously made marks if applicable and replace ZNS fasteners with new ones.

When installing the centering sleeve over the centering dowel, apply a thin coat of molybdenum disulfide grease (Molykote Longterm 2 Plus® or equivalent).

Using new parts, place the insert nut with seal in the insert collar of the flange nut and install the retaining clip.

The rear section of the driveshaft should be hung from the body using stiff wire, then the driveshaft center support bearing mounting nuts should be removed, and the center of the driveshaft should be pulled down to facilitate removal.

While working at the driveshaft front flex-disc, counter hold the bolt heads and remove the nuts at the transmission or transfer case output flange, discarding the old fasteners. To avoid damaging the flex-disc rubber, hold the bolts stationary while loosening the nuts.
