With the exhaust system fully cooled down, raise and support the car for access to the exhaust system. Loosen the two spring-loaded bolts joining the left or right rear muffler pipe to the center muffler. While working underneath the rear of the vehicle, if necessary, unclip the rear bumper extension to gain access to the rearmost muffler hangers. Remove the left or right rear muffler hanger mounting bolts and then remove the spring-loaded bolts at the center muffler to lower the rear muffler. Exercise caution as the exhaust system is heavy and should be lowered with the help of an assistant. For installation, follow the reverse of the removal process, ensuring to use new gaskets and hardware while coating the hardware threads with anti-seize paste. Verify that there is at least 20 mm (3/4 in) clearance between the exhaust system and the vehicle underbody at every point. Loosely install the exhaust system mounting hardware and hangers before tightening the fasteners to their final torque. The rubber mount for the rear muffler at the rear subframe is color-coded by engine application, with the 6-cylinder mount being gray and the V8 mount being red, as mixing up rubber mounts can alter the exhaust system's vibration characteristics.

Measure the length of exhaust pipe sections on the replacement center muffler and transfer the measured distance to the installed exhaust system before cutting.

The installation follows the reverse of removal, ensuring to use new gaskets and hardware while coating the hardware threads with anti-seize paste.
