    Rear drum units for both service brake and handbrake models, and auxiliary drum brakes for rear discs models are covered. Some of them are: for brake shoe removal, it is advisable to; Chock the front wheels, raise the rear of the vehicle, remove the road wheels with the handbrakes fully released. If the brake shoes do get bound, turn the adjusting nuts on the slackers in the appropriate direction to release them, Take off the brake drum. One shoe may be jolted out of the lower mounting using the screwdriver, the return spring should be disconnected and pulling the upper ends of the wheel cylinder. Remove the thrust rod, upper return spring, and handbrake cable; it will be noted that the rear shoe is serviced with the handbrake operating lever. Thoroughly wash all grime and oils from the brake assembly as well as the inner surface of the drum. On refitting reverse the removal procedure being careful to ensure that return springs are correctly located, when fitting the upper return spring the hooked end of the longer part goes into the handbrake lever hole on the rear shoe. Make sure that the shoe webs fit correctly into the wheel cylinder pistons and centre the brake shoes upon finishing. Owners should avoid relining brake shoes by themselves for this is where bedding and concentricity are required; the shoe should be replaced or relined by a professional. Pelleted linings require replacement, as do all of the four rear linings if one is damaged or contaminated. To service a wheel cylinder the brake drum of the wheel which is to be serviced is to be removed, fluid reservoir outlets have to be plugged, adjusters have to be slackened, brake pipe is to be disconnected with its end being plugged. Pull off the two screws shown, push the cylinder to the right and pull it forward. Remove dust covers, pistons and springs and dispense with seals, while replacing dust covers where necessary. Metallic parts should be cleaned with detergents of recommended products, checked for excessive usage or any sign of defect and if so it should be replaced. During re assembly use brake cylinder paste or an approved brake fluid to coat internal parts, while fitting the seals ensure that they are not torn. Replace the wheel cylinder in the reverse manner mentioned above, make certain that the brake shoe webs engage properly and that the brake is bled when all is done.
