To start removing the shock absorber, block the front wheels and raise the rear of the vehicle using jackstands. Removing the rear wheel can provide better access. On E-series chassis models, remove the luggage compartment side trim panel. Position a floor jack underneath the hub carrier and raise it to support the weight of the carrier.

Once the strut assembly is removed, clean it and securely mount it upright in a vise. Proceed to remove the bolt attaching the suspension strut to the hub carrier, as well as the ABS sensor wiring bracket. To safely work with the coil spring, use a spring compressor to compress it.

The coil spring should be positioned between the spring holders in a spring compressor, ensuring that three coils lie between them before compressing the spring.

The two main tasks are: first, removing the strut assembly from the vehicle, and second, disassembling and replacing the components on a workbench.
