If your vehicle has a strut tower brace, remove the cowl trim panel cap and associated bolts. Regardless of the model, from within the engine compartment, remove the strut upper mounting nuts and lower the strut assembly. Be sure to take note of any alignment marks between the mounting plate and vehicle body.

The steering and suspension check includes inspecting tires for irregular wear patterns and proper inflation, checking the universal joint and steering gear housing for leakage, examining tie-rod ends and all suspension and steering components for damage or wear, testing the movement of the steering components while an assistant turns the steering wheel, checking balljoints for play and inspecting their boots for damage, and inspecting the suspension arm bushings at the rear of the vehicle for deterioration.

After removing the upper mounting nut, lower the shock absorber out from underneath the vehicle. If needed, you can also remove the two bolts and the mounting from the suspension arm.
