    Q:
What are the steps required for the installation and removal of the front stabilizer bar and its components on BMW Z4? Posted by Customer
    A:
Some of the new parts which will be needed at the time of mounting includes new mounting clamp nuts and new connecting link nuts. To uninstall the 'stabilitrak' simply unbolt the front wheels, ensure the rear wheels are blocked firmly, apply the hand brake, lift the front part of the car with proper jack points and secure the car on jackstands. Take out the screws in the front covering of the engine, and the engine splash shield thereafter, and both the front wheels as well. Loosen the two nuts on the Sway Bar Kit end link, on both ends, using a second wrench to immobilise the ball-joint stud. Put alignment marks on the bushing and Sway Bar Kit, then untighten the Sway Bar Kit mounting clamp bolts, then remove the front slant bar clamp nuts while noting the position of the bushing relative to the bar. Remove both clamps from the subframe and work the Sway Bar Kit out from under the car and then withdraw the mounting bushings. Inspect the Sway Bar Kit components for signs of wear, damage or deterioration in particular with reference to the mounting bushings, and replace the worn part by the genuine specified or better if available. For installation, fit the rubber bushings to the Sway Bar Kit, and locate them to the alignment holes made before removing the bar and then turn the bushing so that the split side is at the downward position. Put the Sway Bar Kit back into position, fasten the mounting clamps where they were before, and secure them with new retaining nuts which should be placed in the ends of the clamps in the hooks provided on the subframe. Check that the bushing markings are aligned with the marks on the bars; if they are aligned, tighten the mounting clamp retaining nuts to the recommended torque. Fit the Sway Bar Kit connecting links to the bar; adjust the flats on the balljoint shank to locate against the lugs on the bar, install new retaining nuts and tighten them to the listed torque. Last of all, try to fit the four wheels back on, then jack up the car and finally tighten the bolts with force to the manufacturer recommended pound. As a conclusion, the procedures to follow when removing and fitting the four wheels of a car are quite clear and straightforward and as suggested by the manufacturers, they do not require a professional mechanic to execute them.
