    Q:
How to remove and install a starter motor on BMW 328i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Removal begins with disconnecting the battery negative cable. Next, remove the intake manifold. Noting their installed positions, remove the nuts and disconnect the leads from the starter solenoid, which includes the starter cables and cut the clip securing them to the solenoid. Then, remove the bolts and the starter. Note that due to the magnesium crankcase, the starter mounting bolts are made of aluminum, and cannot be reused; install new bolts. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the starter mounting bolts to the specified torque. If the starter is thought to be suspect, it should be removed from the vehicle and tested by a dealer service department or other qualified repair shop. However, check on the cost of repairs before proceeding, as it may prove more economical to obtain a new or exchange starter.
