To disconnect a balljoint taper pin, first remove the castellated nut or self-locking nut, then use an extractor or forked, tapered wedges to separate the balljoint from the eye of the attached component. Alternatively, place the head of a hammer or other solid metal article on one side of the hole in the arm where the pin is fitted, and hit it smartly with a hammer on the opposite side; this method can effectively squeeze the taper out if a good swing can be achieved. The balljoints at each end of the two outer track rods should be released from the steering arms, followed by the release of the clamp pinch bolts and unscrewing of the trackrod ends from the trackrod, which has left and right-hand threads on one side of the front suspension. Balljoints cannot be overhauled or repaired and should be renewed if worn or showing any slackness in the movement of the ball within its housing, as no provision is made for lubrication. If new outer trackrod-ends have been fitted, set the distance between balljoint centres of the trackrods to 14.2 in (361.0 mm) as a basic setting pending front wheel alignment.
