BMW 335i Oil Filter Housing Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and reinstall the oil filter housing in N51,N52,N52KP six cylinder engine on BMW 335i?
A: Drain engine coolant and remove the electric cooling fan. Loosen the oil filter cover to allow oil in the filter housing to flow into the pan. Remove the intake manifold, as this is necessary to access a difficult-to-reach oil filter housing fastener located on the right side of the oil filter housing under the intake manifold. It may be possible to access this bolt without removing the intake manifold using suitable tools. If necessary, remove the oil cooler from the oil filter housing. Working at the oil filter housing, disconnect the coolant line, remove the oil pressure sensor, and then remove the bolts to take off the oil filter housing from the engine. For installation, reverse the removal process, ensuring to clean mating surfaces and replace O-rings and seals while avoiding over-tightening fasteners to prevent damage to seals. Refill coolant and check and top off oil as needed.
