How to set the wiper switch interval control on BMW X3?

The interval control thumb wheel is used to change the wiping interval of the windscreen wipers; this is determined by the speed of the car; and is at 26 seconds for stationary car and reduces to 2 seconds for high speed car, with the intervals reducing as the speed increases further. Wiping speeds also vary with the road speed; slow speed lasts those wipe at intermittent levels while fast speed shifts to slow at the same time as the vehicle comes to a halt. The wiper motor wiring and electrical contacts are made to prevent overloading of the motor by switching off the motor if a wiper arm is stalled for 16 seconds.
