    Q:
How to remove and replace the turbocharger and Exhaust Manifold in 4-6 cylinder for N54 six cylinder engine on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
Eliminate both pre-catalytic converters, and set free right side tie rod acting on the steering rack. Then, it is necessary to uninstall the inteRcooler, turn the engine with idle running until the coolant drains, and then remove the coolant expansion tank. Go on to take out the coolant pump together with two vacuum reservoirs and the air box and air intake duct as well. Unbolt the oil return bolt and the bracket and carefully extract the oil return line from the engines block. At the inter-turbo charger, remove the fasteners and coolant supply hoses. It is allowed, however, to use pliers, but only for getting a firm grip on the flange of the coolant supply line before removing it, although not the pipes. Undo the fasteners of the coolant inlet pipe and the coolant return line, then pull out the coolant return line and the coolant supply line, using the pliers where necessary but should ensure that the wastegate valve linkage is not spoilt. Now unbolt the retaining plate as well as the heat shield; install the heat shield and swing out carry it to the rear. The supply pipe for the coolant can also be disconnected and this goes hand in hand with the heat shield. Disconnect the fasteners from the bracket and place this bracket on top of the cylinder head and the next step is to also disconnect the fasteners from the oil supply line bracket and liberate this line. Remove all the exhaust manifold bolts, and remove exhaust manifold/turbo charger from upper side by pulling out but be careful not to damage wastegate valve linkage, also remove the vacuum hose fitted on wastegate valve. If replacing the turbocharger, unbolt the oil supply line fastener and relocate it on the new unit; graphite gaskets are always required. The rest is very much similar to removal but the new O-rings, gaskets, and hardware is used and the hardware thread is lined with anti-seize lubrication. Last, scan for fault memories with a BMW scan tool and delete, and the air intake and exhaust systems for any signs of leakage.
