Secure the engine from the top and take of the
Catalytic Converter. Secondly, turn out the engine cooling fan and cowl and thirdly, remove the intercooler. Remove the engine coolant and the coolant expansion tank; you can thereafter remove the coolant pump. Following that, it is necessary to remove the air box and the air intake duct and to unbolt the coolant supply line connections, having in mind to catch in some sort of container whatever coolant may still remain in the lines. When at the turbocharger, unscrew the nut and let the coolant flow through the supply and return hoses, and then put a container below to capture any dripping coolant. To provide access to the bracket, the fasteners do not have to be removed but could be loosened: the fastener, together with the oil line, must be removed after; allow the spilled oil to drip. Further proceed by disconnecting the oil return line and coolant line at the engine; such may drip hence one should be ready for it. Remove the wastegate valve connector and the nut; unbolt the oil supply line at the engine side as well as vacuum supply line from the wastegate actuator side. Disconnect the vacuum lines from the solenoid valve, next undo the fastener and the solenoid valve. Take out bolts securing heat shield, the heat shore and bolts for the turbo charger flange. Lower the turbocharger from the head and rotate it in the downward position and backward, so as to detach the oil supply line. Once also the fastener and the oil line to turbocharger has been released, then, the turbocharger should come out. As pointed out for installation, apply anti seize protectant to the threads of the hardware, replace the O rings when fitting the oil and coolant lines and replace all graphite sealing rings when reinstalling the exhaust manifold and turbo charger. Screw the turbocharger to the cylinder head in two bolts and fit a bolt between the turbocharger and bracket to be tightened later. New bracket bolts were used and should be installed finger tight up until the exhaust manifold is to be fastened to the cylinder head and the fasteners fastened to the block in a sequence. Carry out the final tightening on the remaining fastener Before and after final connection, carry out a BMW scan to check for fault memory and to clear in case there is any Air intake and exhaust system should also be inspected for leaks.
