First things first, to disarm the parking brake cable, you'll need to unfasten the rear part of the car's center console so that you can get at the parking brake lever, both sections of which are connected to the parking brake cable. Release the parking brake cable locknut and adjusting nut and pull the inner cable until disconnected from the lever. Tighten the nuts on the front wheels by turning them clockwise and then lift the back part of the Mazda using jack stands. To gain access to the parking brake cables, the exhaust system heat shield must be eliminated and, depending on the specific model and make of car, some part of the exhaust system also has to be unbolted. Detach the outer cable's front end from the body and pull it out of the support guide, examining the cable's path as you do, and then remove it from all clips. Pull out the relevant rear disc, push the cable core as far as the expander lock, and then slightly press the nipple, after which extract the cable core from the expander.
