    Q:
What is the location and procedure for replacing the oil pressure switch and oil condition/level switch in 3.0L six cylinder engine on BMW 330i? Posted by Customer
    A:
The oil pressure switch is located on the left-hand side of the engine block behind the oil filter housing. Disconnect the wiring plug, and unscrew the switch from the engine block. Be prepared for oil spillage. Installation is the reversal of removal. Use a new sealing washer and tighten the switch to the specified torque. Check the engine oil level and add new oil if necessary. For the oil condition/level switch, drain the engine oil. Remove the fasteners and the engine splash shield. Disconnect the wiring plug, remove the three retaining nuts and remove the switch from the base of the oil pan. Ensure that the oil pan mating surface is clean. Install the switch with a new seal and apply a little thread-locking compound. Tighten the retaining nuts to the specified torque. Install the engine splash shield, and refill the engine oil.

    Q:
How to remove and install Oil Pressure Switch on BMW M3? Posted by Customer
    A:
When the ignition switch is turned on without the engine running or when the oil pressure drops below 3-7 psi, as the case may be, it is necessary for the low oil pressure warning lamp to light up. The oil pressure switch itself entails a pressure-sensitive 'on-off' switch with one or two electrical terminals. After that, it establishes a circuit between its terminals whenever there is a fall in oil pressure below the safe operating level of an engine, thereby turning on the low oil pressure warning light. In two-wire switches, terminal 2 acts as ground while terminal 1 connects to the oil pressure light. In single-wire switches, grounding the electrical lead activates the light. In case this does not work, you need to check if there are any wiring issues or broken wires or even a disconnected unit and test if it works by grounding terminal one for single wire systems and jumping between terminals one and two for two wire systems. Replace the switch if it doesn't work. For an oil pressure light that remains on after attempting to diagnose it, check for the presence of a shorted wire by disconnecting the electrical connector at the oil pressure switch. If this fails to correct the fault, replace the known good switch with another one that has been used before and reinstall its operation under a running system with the negative battery cable still attached. There may also be grounded switch wires, defective oil pressure switches, restricted/leaking oil filters; excessive engine bearing clearances; insufficient/contaminated engine oils; blocked pump pick-up screens or worn-out pumps among other causes that can lead to such persistent behavior in terms of displaying an oil pressure warning light in some cases. Oil pressure switch removal and installation vary by engine model but usually include disconnection of the negative battery cable followed by removal of the switch, then replacement of the new sealing washer and torquing to specified values. On E36 models, care must be taken when removing the electric connector. Socket together, finally fill the negative battery cable and put back radio preset and theft codes into the system before starting the engine and allowing it to warm up, then checking for oil leaks and ensuring proper operation of the oil pressure warning light.

    Q:
How do you replace the oil pressure switch on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
A small bolt has to be turned anti-clockwise to make the oil filter cover to become loose so that the engine oil can be allowed to drain back to the oil pan before tightening the bolt again. Pull the harness connector with the oil pressure switch if you're going to diagnose only that then remove the cover of ignition coil. Pull out the switch with the idea that some oil might spill and be ready to have a shop towel nearby to wipe it. Quite a lot of attention must be paid to the cleaning of the area around the oil pressure switch prior to its removal. Replace the new pressure switch with a new sealing washer.

    Q:
How do you access and replace the oil pressure warning switch on BMW X5? Posted by Customer
    A:
Having access to the Oil Pressure Switch on a 6-cylinder engine is somehow wanting given that the intake manifold has been taken off. In the case of the V8 M62 TU engine, the Oil Pressure Switch is fitted at the bottom of the oil filter case. Turn the oil filter cap counter clockwise in order to release the pressure until it is possible to pull the oil filter cap to loosen it so as to allow oil to flow back to the oil pan. Unplug the harness connector from the Oil Pressure Switch and pull out the switch noting the flow of oil with a shop towel. The area surrounding the Oil Pressure Switch must be cleaned extensively before the switch is removed. There again, removal of the oil filter housing cap is done by loosening it and checking the oil level and then replacing the oil if required.

    Q:
How to remove and install the oil pressure switch in 2.0L four cylinder engine on BMW 325i? Posted by Customer
    A:
The oil pressure switch is located under the throttle body in the side of the engine block. Disconnect the electrical connector and unscrew the switch from the engine block. Be prepared for oil spillage. Installation is the reversal of removal. Use a new sealing washer and tighten the switch to the specified torque. Check the engine oil level and add new oil if necessary. Drain the engine oil. Remove the fasteners and the engine splash shield. Disconnect the wiring plug, remove the three retaining bolts and remove the switch from the bottom corner of the oil pan. Ensure that the oil pan mating surface is clean. Install the switch with a new seal and apply a little thread-locking compound. Tighten the retaining nuts to the specified torque. Install the engine splash shield, and refill the engine oil.

    Q:
How do you access and replace the oil pressure, oil level, and oil temperature switches on BMW Z4? Posted by Customer
    A:
On some models, to get to the oil pressure switch it might be needed to uninstall the intake manifold. To start with, if it is possible remove the oil filter cap loosely so as to allow the oil in the filter to drain back into the oil pan to reduce on the loss of the oil when replacing the switch. Secondly, disconnect the electric connection, and then unscrew the switch mounted on the base of the air filter housing, and then twist off the air filter housing. New switch is to be installed and fastened to the recommended torque, the air filter housing as well as the oil filter cap is to be reinstalled, final check being made on the oil level. The procedure for the oil level switch is as follows: Remove the engine splash shield, and drain the engine oil. Pull out the electrical connector, unscrew the three nuts then, and then remove the level switch. It should come with a new oil seal and an oil level switch, fit these parts in place the mating surface of the oil pan has to be clean, tighten the retaining nuts down securely. Replace the engine splash shield back, and fill the crankcase with only the correct type and amount of engine oil. Regarding the oil temperature switch, proceed as under: prima rid of the cap of the oil filter and secondly the air filter housing. Remove the electrical connector and then unscrew the switch from the base or the area of the oil filter housing, then put the new switch and tighten it as required. At lastly, refit the air filter housing and the oil filter cap and once more check the oil level.
