    Q:
How to replace the CV Boot on BMW 330i? Posted by Customer
    A:
If the CV joints are worn, suggesting an overhaul is necessary (typically due to torn boots and lost grease), consider all possibilities before starting. Complete rebuilt CV boots are available for exchange, which can save a significant amount of time and labor. To begin, remove the CV boot. Clean it and mount it in a vise. Release the two inner joint boot-retaining clips, freeing the boot and dust cover. For E-series models, pry off the sealing cover from the end of the inner CV joint. Scoop out excess grease and, on E-series models, remove the inner joint snap-ring from the end of the driveshaft. Securely support the joint's inner member and tap the CV boot out using a hammer and drift. If the joint is tight, a puller might be needed. Don't disassemble the inner joint and, for F-series chassis models, don't attempt to separate the inner CV joint from the shaft. After removing the joint, slide off the inner boot and dust cover. Release the outer joint boot retaining clips, then slide the boot off. Clean the CV joints with solvent and dry them. Inspect each ball for cracks, flat spots, or pitting signs. Check the ball tracks on the inner and outer members for wear. If any components are damaged, they should be replaced. If the joints are okay, get new boot repair kits. Tape over the CV boot splines, slide the new outer boot on, pack it with grease, and secure it with retaining clips. Engage the new inner boot with its dust cover and slide it onto the CV boot. Remove the tape, install the inner CV joint, and secure it with a new snap-ring. Fill the boot with grease, position it, and press the dust cover onto the joint, ensuring proper alignment. Lift the boot's outer sealing lip to balance the air pressure and secure it with retaining clips. Apply a sealant (BMW suggests BMW sealing gel) and press the new sealing cover onto the inner joint's end. Ensure both CV joints move freely before installing the CV boot.

    Q:
How to replace a outer CV boot using a complete boot repair kit on BMW 335i? Posted by Customer
    A:
When replacing a CV boot, use a complete boot repair kit available from an authorized BMW dealer parts department, which includes a new boot, clamping bands, special lubricant, and a new CV joint shaft circlip. Begin by removing the drive axle and placing it in a shop vice with aluminum jaws. Release the retaining clamps from both ends of the outer CV boot, cut off the boot, and discard it. Use a soft-faced hammer to pound the outer CV joint off the drive axle, then pry the spring clip off the drive axle splines with a flat blade screwdriver. Clean the old lubricant off the axle splines and inspect the CV joint for galling, pitting, and other signs of wear or physical damage, noting that polished surfaces or visible ball tracks alone do not necessarily warrant replacement, while discoloration indicates a lack of lubrication. Place the new clamping bands and CV boot over the drive axle, replace the spring clip on the splined end, and apply Loctite®270 or an equivalent heavy-duty locking compound to the drive axle splines, ensuring that the locking compound does not contact the balls in the joint and is applied only as a thin coat. Pack the joint with fresh CV joint grease, with a lubricant capacity of 80 grams (2.8 oz) for the outer CV joint, then tap the CV joint onto the splined end of the drive axle until the spring clip snaps audibly into place. Use clamp pliers to secure the retaining clamp tightly, sealing the large end of the boot against the CV joint. Before installing the small boot clamp, flex the CV joint as far over as it will go and insert a small screwdriver between the boot and axle-shaft to eliminate any air. With the outer boot full of grease and air removed, secure the small end of the boot on the CV joint by pinching the clamp with pliers. The remainder of the installation follows the reverse order of removal. Finally, check the front differential oil level and top off if necessary.

What steps should be followed to remove the inner joint of the CV joint during the overhaul process for the 2006 BMW 325i? Posted by Customer

Securely support the joint's inner member and tap the driveaxle out using a hammer and drift. If the joint is tight, a puller might be needed. Do not disassemble the inner joint. For F-series chassis models, avoid attempting to separate the inner CV joint from the shaft.
