BMW 335i Torque Converter Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How do you remove and reinstall the torque converter in a transmission on BMW 335i?
A: To remove the transmission, first, use BMW special tools 24 4 000 to unscrew the torque converter, then pull it straight off the transmission input shaft. Be cautious, as removing the torque converter will cause transmission fluid to drain out, so be prepared to catch any dripping fluid. Remove the torque converter slowly and set it down vertically to prevent spilling additional fluid. When reinstalling the torque converter, ensure that the new seal is not damaged. Lightly oil the converter seal surface and rotate the converter during installation, applying slight pressure until the recesses in the converter audibly locate in the ATF pump. Finally, press the converter in firmly, as improper installation can destroy the impeller driver in the converter when mating the transmission to the engine.
