    Q:
How do I remove the oil pan in 3.0L six cylinder engine on BMW 328i? Posted by Customer
    A:
To detach the oil pan, start by detaching the strut support and cabin air filter cover. Disconnect mass airflow sensor wiring plug as well as air intake hose. Air filter housing and ignition coils cover should be retained. Cowl housing should be removed by removing mounting bolts. Use an engine hoist or support fixture to prop up the engine and slightly lift it. Loosen nut that secures engine mount support brackets and lift engine further for removal of oil pan. Underbody paneling must be removed together with reinforcement brace under front subframe. Disconnect steering column lower universal joint pinch-bolt then raise the column shaft up. Vacuum hoses from ride height sensors must be disconnected together with wiring plugs from engine mounts Be sure to cut cable tie on the wiring harness attaching it to subframe Secure jack on front subframe; remove bolt that holds them Lower subframe with caution while taking note of power steering hoses Disconnect oil return hose(s) from oil pan Remove sensors on oil pan then remove bolts which fasten transmission casing Get rid of all bolts holding oil pan to cylinder block Loosen connection between engine block and crankcase in order to lower oil sump Break the joint sealant on the flange keeping it intact Take off gasket Inspect for obstructions or fractures in pipe leading to pump Clean up or replace it if necessary Oil pan's joining surfaces should first of all be cleaned Put gasket at flange of sump, lift it up against crankcase Install new bolts holding oil sump down Tighten screws connecting a gearbox case with a sump until they stop Finally bring torque back into specification while progressively tightening attachment screws left Replace pipes, wires or rubber tubes before putting back remaining nuts so that nothing is squashed during elevation Use new subframe and reinforcement frame/plate bolts The mounting nuts for an engine need retightening Refill engine with fresh oil plus check liquid level in automatic gearboxes.
